RELEASE: Excel National Applauds Tennessee Legislature for Protecting Teachers
The Educator Protection Act establishes liability insurance protection for teachers and student teachers
Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Tennessee House of Representatives passed the Educator Protection Act (SB 604/HB 645), which will provide liability insurance protection to all teachers. The Senate passed the bill last month. Excellence in Education National (@Excel_National) Executive Director Patricia Levesque made the following statement on the bill’s passage:
“Offering state-covered liability insurance protection is an opportunity to do something for our hardworking teachers in a cost-effective way. Teachers should not have to pay hundreds of dollars to obtain liability insurance as they work to shape children’s lives, when the state can purchase the insurance for a few dollars a teacher. Providing teachers with the insurance protection they need is a benefit they deserve. We applaud Senator Mark Norris, Representative Gerald McCormick and the Tennessee General Assembly for taking action to protect teachers and look forward to Governor Bill Haslam’s signature on this legislation.”
