Arizona Strengthens Math Policy and Guarantees Access to Advanced Pathways

Arizona

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of ExcelinEd in Action, issued the following statement on Arizona's adoption of new math policy:

“Arizona is taking an important step to raise math achievement by guaranteeing students who show proficiency access to advanced coursework—so readiness, not discretion, drives opportunity.

“By automatically enrolling eligible middle school students in advanced math and expanding earlier access to Algebra I and other accelerated pathways, policymakers are opening doors that keep more students on track for success in high school, college and careers.

“Just as important, families will receive clear, timely information about course options, expectations and benefits so parents can make informed decisions about their child’s learning path.

“We are grateful to Rep. Matt Gress, Sen. Hildy Angius and the many Arizona lawmakers who championed higher expectations and policies that turn student potential into long-term success.”
