Ohio Advances Comprehensive Math Policy to Strengthen Student Achievement

Ohio

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of ExcelinEd in Action, issued the following statement on Ohio’s passage of comprehensive math policy:

“Ohio lawmakers have taken an important step to improve student achievement and strengthen long-term success in mathematics. This legislation focuses on the key drivers of stronger outcomes: high-quality instruction, timely support for struggling students, well-prepared teachers and access to advanced learning opportunities for students ready to excel.

“Students will benefit from earlier intervention when they fall behind and more opportunities to accelerate when they demonstrate readiness. Educators will gain stronger tools, clearer guidance and access to high-quality instructional materials that support effective teaching. Families will have greater confidence that their children are receiving the support and challenge they need to succeed.

“We commend Senate Education Chairman Andrew Brenner and House Education Chairwoman Sarah Fowler Arthur for their leadership and commitment to advancing this comprehensive set of policies that will strengthen math achievement and position more students to master foundational skills, succeed in advanced coursework and graduate prepared for future opportunities.”
