“Indiana is, once again, taking decisive action to ensure every Hoosier student builds the foundational skills they need to succeed in school, in careers and in life. This comprehensive legislation sets a new standard for math education—grounded in evidence-based instruction, early identification of struggling students and expanded opportunities for high-achieving students.
“By requiring early numeracy screenings in grades K-8 and mandating targeted intervention programs, Indiana is ensuring students who need extra support get it before it’s too late. At the same time, the bill removes barriers for accelerating advanced learners by automatically enrolling high-performing middle school students in advanced math courses.
“Indiana’s leadership on literacy reforms has already shown that bold, student-focused policies deliver results. This legislation applies those same principles to math, setting students on a path toward higher achievement, stronger college and career readiness and greater opportunities for their futures.
“We applaud Gov. Mike Braun, Secretary of Education Katie Jenner, Speaker Todd Huston, President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray, Sens. Linda Rogers and Jeff Raatz, and Reps. Jake Teshka, Julie McGuire and Bob Behning for championing this forward-thinking legislation. Their leadership will make a real, lasting difference in the lives of Hoosier students.”
