Statement from Governor Jeb Bush, Founder and Chairman of ExcelinEd in Action, on Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt’s State of the State address:
“Governor Stitt outlined bold priorities that empower parents and focus Oklahoma’s education system on its students. By expanding education choice, Gov. Stitt is championing a future that eliminates artificial boundaries, individualizes education and increases options for all children.
“I applaud Gov. Stitt’s leadership and vision by thinking beyond the status quo and supporting student-centered solutions with the power to transform lives.”
Gov. Stitt’s education priorities include:
- Pledged support for any legislation that would provide parents with more school choice
- Highlighted the Oklahoma Empowerment Act that would establish education savings accounts to ensure the money follows the student
- Proposed changes to the state’s school transportation formula that would eliminate artificial barriers for students as well as offer new transportation funding grants for families
- Recommended retaining high-quality educators by providing matching funds to increase teacher salaries
