Oklahoma Gov. Stitt Prioritizes Parents, Students in State of the State

Statement from Governor Jeb Bush, Founder and Chairman of ExcelinEd in Action, on Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt’s State of the State address: 

“Governor Stitt outlined bold priorities that empower parents and focus Oklahoma’s education system on its students. By expanding education choice, Gov. Stitt is championing a future that eliminates artificial boundaries, individualizes education and increases options for all children.   

“I applaud Gov. Stitt’s leadership and vision by thinking beyond the status quo and supporting student-centered solutions with the power to transform lives.”  

Gov. Stitt’s education priorities include: 

• Pledged support for any legislation that would provide parents with more school choice 
• Highlighted the Oklahoma Empowerment Act that would establish education savings accounts to ensure the money follows the student 
• Proposed changes to the state’s school transportation formula that would eliminate artificial barriers for students as well as offer new transportation funding grants for families  
• Recommended retaining high-quality educators by providing matching funds to increase teacher salaries
