Opinion: Jeb Bush: Tennessee can learn from Florida’s school choice success benefiting families

Tennessee

"School choice is not new in Tennessee, and as more and more state leaders champion the idea that students need options to thrive, it’s becoming the law of the land, with more than a dozen states adopting universal or near-universal programs."

Tennessee has an incredible opportunity this year to expand educational choice to all families, empowering parents to select a school that works best for their kids instead of having to make do with one they get assigned to.

School choice is not new in Tennessee, and as more and more state leaders champion the idea that students need options to thrive, it’s becoming the law of the land, with more than a dozen states adopting universal or near-universal programs.

In the Volunteer State, an EdChoice survey showed that 70% of parents support education scholarship accounts (ESAs), and 66% support school vouchers and public charter schools.

Those numbers make it clear that policymakers should embrace Gov. Bill Lee’s plan for universal parental choice. Based on experience, I can tell you what will happen once they do.
