“Virginia’s investment in foundational literacy skills is an investment in the future of every elementary and middle school student in the state. This smart expansion of the Literacy Act will guarantee that every child gets the evidence-based instruction, intervention and support they need to succeed in reading, in school and in life.
“We are grateful to Del. Carrie Coyner and Sen. Louise Lucas for championing this important legislation, Gov. Glenn Youngkin for his leadership and support for both expanding and faithfully implementing the Virginia Literacy Act and the entire General Assembly for so wisely investing in our students and their futures.”

Expansion of the law provides critical, evidence-based reading preparation for future teachers and professional development for current teachers.
