Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Signs Bill to Increase Investment in Tax Credit Scholarship Program

Georgia

Governor Jeb Bush, Founder and Chairman of ExcelinEd, applauds Governor Brian Kemp for expanding and improving the state’s school choice program, giving an estimated 4,000 more students access to the program:

“Every child deserves the opportunity to attend a school that suits them best and thanks to the leadership of Gov. Kemp, Rep. John Carson, Sen. Chuck Payne and the Georgia General Assembly, more students will have access to this meaningful program, and a better chance for a successful future.”

Today, Governor Kemp signed HB 517 into law, which increases the cap of the Georgia Qualified Education Expense Tax Credit Program, from $100 million to $120 million annually.

The legislation allows corporations and individuals to donate to student scholarship organizations (SSOs) that grant eligible students a scholarship to attend the school of their choice.

The additional investment of $20 million per year will allow as many as 4,000 additional students to receive a scholarship. In addition, the bill removes the program’s sunset provision, eliminating any expiration date for these vital scholarships.
