Zach S. Eckert, Regional Advocacy Director for ExcelinEd in Action issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s late Friday afternoon decision to veto a $500 million initiative to expand educational choices for Michigan students:
“Michigan students have faced unprecedented challenges over the past 24 months. They urgently need solutions that empower parents and expand educational options to meet their unique needs.
“It’s disappointing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer vetoed the latest commonsense solution; a proposed $500 million tax credit program to provide learning options for students in public schools or those wishing to customize their education.
“Sadly, this decision leaves Michigan as the only state in the Great Lakes region that is denying students more education flexibility, freedom and support. Michigan families deserve better.”
