South Carolina Invests in College and Career Readiness

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the South Carolina Legislature gave final passage to H. 5001, the fiscal 2017 budget, which includes $3 million in funding to help students earn industry-recognized certifications tied to South Carolina’s workforce demand.  These employer-valued certifications help fill the gap between the skills that employers want and what current high school graduates possess.

“South Carolina is taking action to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce. Industry certifications allow schools and businesses to work together to get students ready for the global economy through rigorous, high-skill courses and content. This program will help ensure students are ready for the challenges of college and the needs of the workforce,” said ExcelinEd in Action National Legislative Director J. Alex Kelly. “We commend the House and Senate for their support.”
