About ExcelinEd in Action

Founded in 2013, ExcelinEd in Action is the 501(c)(4) sister organization to ExcelinEd, with an advocacy-focused mission to turn bold and student-centered education policies into reality.

According to the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress, a staggering 67% of U.S. fourth graders, who should be competently reading to learn, scored below proficient in reading. In fact, fourth grade reading scores declined across all regions of the country and in 30 states and jurisdictions. Those reading struggles appear to follow students into their adulthood, as 63% of 12th graders scored below proficient in reading.

The U.S. saw the largest mathematics score declines for fourth and eighth graders since initial assessments in 1990. A shocking 74% of eighth graders, who should be mastering crucial concepts in Algebra I, performed below proficient.

If these levels persist, U.S. graduates will not be able to compete in the workforce, especially in a global market.

The call to improve K-12 education outcomes is urgent.

To effect positive change for students, ExcelinEd in Action combines strong, evidence-based policy with reliable, trustworthy and informed advocacy. Learn more about our team, our work and our impact at the links below.
