Wyoming Strengthens Early Literacy

Wyoming

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of ExcelinEd in Action, issued the following statement on the passage of early literacy policies in Wyoming:

“Wyoming leaders took meaningful action this week to strengthen literacy instruction in the early grades, when foundational reading skills are built. By prioritizing early identification of reading challenges, timely intervention and instruction grounded in evidence-based practices, this legislation will help ensure more students become proficient readers and gain the confidence that comes with strong literacy skills.

“When states adopt comprehensive literacy policy that includes tools and training aligned to evidence-based research and measures to inform and engage families, students are better set up for success.

“We are grateful to Superintendent Megan Degenfelder, House Speaker Chip Neiman, House Education Chair Rep. Ocean Andrew, Senate Education Chair Sen. Wendy Schuler, Sen. Evie Brennan, Sen. Chris Rothfuss, Rep. Martha Lawley, Rep. Joel Guggenmos, Rep. Tomi Strock, the legislature and the Wyoming Department of Education for advancing student-centered literacy policies that expand opportunity and set more children on a path toward graduation and lifelong success.”
