Gov. Bill Lee Puts Students First With Call for Legislative Special Session

Tennessee

Statement from Josh Thomas, ExcelinEd in Action Legislative Affairs Director for the Southeast Region, on Gov. Bill Lee’s leadership in addressing student needs by ordering a special legislative session on education beginning January 19.

“Gov. Bill Lee understands that 2021 is a critical year for students as we begin recovering from the impact on student learning during the pandemic.

“By setting aside time for lawmakers to focus solely on the needs of students and educators, Gov. Lee is ensuring that strong policies will receive elevated attention and support families battling to keep their children on the path toward learning gains.

“We are happy to support Tennessee lawmakers as they consider critical policy improvement in areas including early literacy, learning loss, accountability and teacher pay.”
