Statement on Ohio Legislature’s Passage of EdChoice Program Improvements

Statement from Ashley DeMauro Mullins, ExcelinEd in Action Senior Legislative Director, on improvements to Ohio’s EdChoice Scholarship Program.

“Every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, no matter their background, income level or where they live. Senator Matt Huffman’s plan to redesign the EdChoice Scholarship Program by first looking at income considerations, followed by performance, is a welcomed improvement that will benefit those Ohio students who have the greatest needs.

“Raising the income eligibility level for scholarships also opens the door for more hard-working Ohio families to send their children to a school that best meets their needs.

“ExcelinEd in Action commends the many leaders and partners who have worked together to improve educational opportunities for Ohio students—especially Senate President Larry Obhof, Senator Matt Huffman and House Speaker Bob Cupp for ushering these improvements through the chambers.”
