Missouri families and students would have the power to choose the best educational option for their child under the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program.
Late Monday night the Senate passed, Senate Bill 313, sponsored by Sen. Andrew Koenig, which would create Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) for eligible children, including children with disabilities and foster children.
The new program would provide tax credits to individuals and businesses who donate to nonprofit organizations that provide ESAs.
ESAs are an innovative way to bring customization to K-12 education. With an ESA, parents are able to direct education funding for their child to the schools, courses, programs and services of their choice.
“This innovative approach would allow more Missouri students to find the educational path that best fits their unique needs and abilities. We appreciate Sen. Koenig and other policymakers fighting to empower parents and students with the tools to succeed in education, careers and life.” – J. Alex Kelly, ExcelinEd In Action National Legislative Director
