ExcelinEd in Action Thanks Tennessee House Finance Committee for Voting for Choice in Education
Legislation would provide education options to students who are struggling the most
Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Tennessee House Finance, Ways and Means Committee passed the Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act (HB 1049), sponsored by Representative Bill Dunn. The legislation would give low-income students in failing schools across Tennessee the opportunity to attend an accredited, high-quality private school that better serves their individual needs.
ExcelinEd in Action National Legislative Director J. Alex Kelly issued the following statement:
“Tennessee students deserve every opportunity to get a great education. Why limit their potential in a failing school that is not meeting individual learning needs? The Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act can be the pathway to success in life for many children. We thank the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee for putting student success and achievement above arbitrary lines determined by zip code.”
The bill, which has already passed the Tennessee Senate, now moves to the House Calendar and Rules Committee, the last stop prior to the House floor. For more information about the Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act, please visit SchoolChoiceNowTN.com.
