TN House Finance Subcommittee Gives Students Educational Options

ExcelinEd in Action Thanks TN House Finance Subcommittee for Giving Students Educational Options

Legislation gives choice in education to some of Tennessee’s most deserving students

Tallahassee, Fla.  – Today, the Tennessee House of Representatives Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee passed the Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act (HB 1049), sponsored by Representative Bill Dunn. The legislation would give low-income students in failing schools across Tennessee the opportunity to attend an accredited, high-quality private school that better serves their individual needs.

ExcelinEd in Action National Legislative Director J. Alex Kelly issued the following statement.

“We congratulate Tennessee for again advancing bold school choice policy. Building on the success of last session and the passage of Education Savings Accounts, the Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act will give more students a chance to pursue their dreams in the learning environment that’s best for them as an individual. With today’s vote, House members are taking a stand for Tennessee’s children. We thank Representative Dunn for his work on this bill, and we look forward to this important legislation moving quickly through the House. This is another win for Tennessee students.”

The bill, which has already passed the Tennessee Senate, now moves to the full House Finance, Ways and Means Committee. For more information about the Tennessee Choice and Opportunity Scholarship Act, please visit SchoolChoiceNowTN.com.
