Florida Mom Says Rest of Country Should Be Watching

March 11, 2015

Hear one Florida parent’s heartfelt story of hope and success with Florida’s Education Savings Accounts Program, Personal Learning Scholarship Accounts (PLSA). Mrs. Katie Swingle wants the PLSA program to help more students in Florida and across the country, just like it is helping her son. She says of Florida’s program, “The rest of the country should be watching.”

Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), state-funded deposit accounts that are managed by parents under state supervision, are an innovative way to bring customization to K-12 education. Through an ESA, parents of students with certain disabilities are able to direct their child’s funding to the schools, courses, programs and services of their choice. By allowing parents to plan for their child’s unique needs, ESAs create a personal approach to education, where the ultimate goal is maximizing each child’s natural learning abilities.
